Monuments
“And Jacob set a pillar upon Rachel’s grave.” Genesis 35:20
The ancient custom of placing a monument over the burial site originates in the Torah. Not only does it serve to clearly indicate the resting place of your loved one, but it is a permanent and tangible memorial.
The type of monument, the inscription and a phrase of tribute are all choices that can make the memorial unique and personal. Usually the inscription will include the English and Hebrew name of the deceased, the name of his or her parents and the Hebrew and secular dates of birth and death.
